How to Prepare Your Car for Transport
A practical collection-day checklist for your car, keys and handover. A little preparation helps the agreed loading and delivery run smoothly.
Before collection
- Remove valuables, loose items and documents you need to keep
- Take clear, dated photographs of the vehicle and existing damage
- Have the keys and seller release documents ready
- Tell Jack about faults, leaks, alarms and immobilisers
- Confirm access and the collection and delivery contacts
Check the car and anything travelling with it
Tell Jack about tyre problems, fluid leaks, loose accessories or a flat battery. Explain whether the vehicle starts, rolls, steers and brakes, and secure or remove loose parts as agreed.
Ask how much fuel is appropriate for loading your particular car. Avoid assumptions about a universal fuel level, battery charge or preparation routine.
EVs, classics and non-running vehicles
For an EV, follow the manufacturer’s transport-mode and key-access instructions. Tell Jack about battery faults or damage before collection.
For a classic or specialist car, explain its starting procedure, ground clearance, modifications and fragile components. A non-runner needs a loading plan based on its condition.
On collection day
Make sure the authorised collection contact is available with the keys and release paperwork. Keep the loading point clear and confirm who will receive the vehicle. Agree how condition will be recorded at each handover.

Tell Jack as soon as possible and explain whether it rolls, steers and brakes. A change in condition can affect the loading arrangement and must be discussed before collection.
